Peachstate Wrestling Alliance at the historic VFW Fairgrounds in Carrollton, Georgia Saturday January 17th 2014.
Peachstate Wrestling Alliance's 2nd Annual Lethal Rumble Event
-Attendance was 238. Among those making appearances and signing autographs were New Japan Bullet Club member Doc Gallows and former WWE/ECW star Stevie Richards.
-New PWA Heritage Champion Tyson Dean (with Shabazz Akbar) was out in a suit to tell the fans he would not be defending the title tonight against Johnny Swinger as was advertised. He said Swinger was no longer in his league and wasn't worthy of a shot at the prestigious gold. Swinger came out and essentially called Dean a coward for refusing to give the people what they want. Akbar said for Swinger to work his way back up the ladder to be worthy of #1 contender status and what better way than by facing his cousin this evening in the form of Abeyratna, who came to the ring in gear and ready for a match. Swinger proceeded to pummel the youngster as Akbar and Dean stayed at ringside.
--Johnny Swinger defeats Abeyratna in 6 minutes by pinfall. After the match, co-commissioner Rick Michaels came down and said Dean may not be defending tonight against Swinger, but he would be wrestling tonight and in fact would be doing so right now! Dean complained about not be dressed and Michaels said that was far from his problem.
--Tyson Dean defeated Ace Haven in 11 minutes by pinfall.- Ace was the surprise challenger and hit Dean early and often with a combination of kicks and strikes before Dean settled in and started unleashing some devastating maneuvers including a tilt-a-whirl shoulder breaker on Haven. This match felt like a true David vs. Goliath encounter, and while Haven made several valiant comeback attempts, the ending was near as Dean finished him with a swinging neck breaker.
--The Sevenfold Saints(Steve Stiles & Clyde Braddock with The Wicked Nemesis) defeated Dusty MacWilliams and Deon Johnson by pinfall. Before the bell rang, a ringside fan was escorted out of the building as Nemesis' verbal sparring proved to be too much and the fan landed a hard right hand to Nemesis before security intervened. The Saints took advantage early as they took turns wearing down both Johnson and MacWilliams with some impressive tag team maneuvers, including a double running dropkick down the apron to the face of Johnson who was lying on the bottom turnbuckle. Johnson finally got a tag to Dusty who was a house of fire and went for his moons quit on Stiles, only to be caught with a top top powerbomb from Braddock which led to the 1-2-3.
--Kyle Matthews defeated Jimmy Rave by pinfall in 16 minutes.- Always a treat when these 2 lock up and tonight was no exception as each man took turns showing impressive chain wrestling. Rave took the advantage, but could not finish Matthews even after a From Dusk Till Dawn, a shining wizard, and a superplex. Matthews got his shoulders up each time and hit the slurpee kick, but Rave kicked out. Matthews with an Irish whip into the corner followed by a running dropkick straight to the kisser of Rave finally brought an end to the back and forth encounter as Matthews made he cover for the win.
Following a 15 minute intermission....
--Jimmy Rave won the 20 man Lethal Rumble. The rules to the Rumble were the same as 2014 which are: 2 men start and a new wrestler is in every 60 seconds. Eliminations were over the top rope battle royal rules until there are 5 men left in the ring. Each of the final 4 eliminations could only occur when a wrestler was handcuffed to one of the 4 top rope turnbuckles. The referees were out to make sure one end of the handcuffs was secured to the top turnbuckle with all 4 of the other ends being open.
Rave and Ace Haven were the first 2 entrants and order of entry from then on was : Sean Nelson, Kevin Blue, Donnie Primetime, Deon Johnson, Steve Stiles, Britt Jackson, Billy Buck, Dusty MacWilliams, Blackheart, Kyle Matthews, Black Angel, Chris Spectra, Clyde Braddock, Abeyratna, Tyson Dean, and Johnny Swinger. Few eliminations in the early going aside from Nelson and Jackson as the ring filled up. The final 7 were Dean, Swinger, Rave, Stiles, Braddock, Primetime, and Matthews. Swinger eliminated Dean and told him he was coming for the Heritage title, only to be unceremoniously dumped by Donnie Primetime, which left us down to our final 5 and the lockdown portion of the match began. Matthews and Rave chopped poor Primetime senseless and he was quickly cuffed. The Sevenfold Saints were able to get Matthews cuffed in one of the other corners and we were down to 3. The saints had been careful not to strike Rave during the Rumble, even going so far as to save him from elimination a couple of times, but all bets were off at this point. The Saints began to administer one hell of a beating to Rave as Braddock gave him a spine buster and Stiles followed with A leg drop. Braddock with an Irish whip right into a reverse spinning kick by Stiles. Then the Saints locked in an impressive double team maneuver as Braddock put Rave in a Boston Crab while Stiles lifted him up into a Camel Clutch. The crowd, sensing that even if they normally didn't like Rave that he was now receiving punishment that no man should endure, began to start a "Jimmy" chant to try and will him on. Rave countered out of a double suplex attempt and was able to lay some stiff chops to both men and first cuffed Stiles then Braddock to outlast the field and win the Rumble. By virtue of his win, Rave has earned a title shot of his choosing at any of the 3 titles under the affiliation of PWA. (Heritage Title, Georgia Jr. Heavyweight Title, and Tag Team Titles)
